Turning Wheels for KidsTurningWheels for Kids is a local non-profit organization that provides new, sturdy, and safe bikes and helmets to local children who would otherwise not have their own.

A bike is a rite of passage for a child. Beyond the fun and smiles, a bike provides many benefits such as the lifelong habits of exercise and outdoor activity. TurningWheels for Kids has distributed over 8,000 bikes since 2003, and plans on hitting its annual goal again in 2010.

The TurningWheels fundraiser event is $40 per person, which includes some great wine, food, and desert from local chef Ivan Barnes.

The event is at UNWINED on Sunday, June 6 from 4-7pm. Walk-ins are welcome. The bar and shop will be open for regular business during this event.

Almaden Valley Soccer Player Matthew GoldsteinRegistration for the Almaden Valley Youth Soccer 2010 Fall Recreational (U6-U16) and Kicker’s Club (U5) programs is now open.

You can register online through June 6, 2010. The price to register is $175 for U6-U16 players, and $120 for U5 players (2010-2011 Player Age Matrix). No paperwork is required at the time of registration. A $25 fee will be charged for late registrations after June 6, 2010.

Registration officially closes on June 20, 2010. Online registration will remain open after June 20, 2010, but your child will automatically be placed on a waiting list.

Buddy requests, if you have any, are final once your online registration has been submitted. Be sure to confirm your buddy requests prior to completing the registration process. (It is your responsibility to make sure you understand all buddy request policies and requirements.)

SeniorNet Learning Center of Almaden ValleySeniorNet Learning Center of Almaden is offering more than a dozen different computer and software application courses this Summer.

SeniorNet is a national non-profit membership organization dedicated to building a community of computer-using seniors (ages 50 and over).

Courses range from an introduction to computers (no computer knowledge required) to intermediate and advanced courses in various software applications.

A sampling of the courses available this Summer include Windows operating systems, search engines, word processing, spreadsheets, photo editing, photo albums, and digital music.

Most of the courses are one day a week for two hours, and last from four to eight weeks. All classes are held at the Almaden Community Center.

The price for an annual membership to SeniorNet is $40. The annual renewal fee for existing members is $30. Individual courses range from $10 to $20 each.

Registration for Summer 2010 is at the Almaden Community Center on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 11:30am.

Tennis BallsSign your child up for Junior Tennis Classes or Junior Tennis Summer Camp. These programs are directed by USPTA / USPTR Tennis Pros, Nancy Ghantous and Coach Reggie. The programs emphasize tennis fundamentals and skills in a fun and positive learning environment.

Tennis classes and Summer camp are available for ten weeks, from June 7, 2010 through August 13, 2010. You can sign up for one week or as many weeks as you wish.

Good manners never go out of style! Raise a perfect gentlemen with Old School Etiquette for Boys. This class will help your son with his manners, appearance, and confidence at social gatherings.

Topics include good posture, public speaking, being a good sport, and table manners. The class ends with a dinner to practice all of the skills the boys have learned. This class is also a great refresher for returning students. The class is for boys ages 7-12.

The class meets six times at the Almaden Community Center on Wednesdays, April 28 – June 2, 2010, 3:45pm to 4:45pm. The price is $79 per boy. You can register your son online.

Campers perform a full cheer routine for parents, guardians, and friends on the last day of class. This camp is guaranteed to be a blast. Cheerleading Summer Camp is for boys and girls ages 6-11.

The lacrosse camp in Almaden Valley will be directed by Drew Virk, a former MLL San Francisco Dragon, NLL San Jose Stealth, and current Stanford University Head Coach.
